Hebrews 13:16…And do not forget to do good and to share with others
Fall 2007
Dear Family & Friends,
Barb sincerely apologizes for the lateness of this letter. She was sick the entire month of September so wasn’t able to get things done and October saw her trying to catch up on September’s to do list.
We pray that you are all well and had a wonderful summer. Fall is finally here and bringing much nicer temperatures than 106. Barb loves this time of year with the beautiful colors of the trees and cooler days.
We have found sometimes it’s difficult for a team to finance a home and a maintenance project is more affordable. One maintenance team, Scott & Lynn Garner, insulated, put up sheetrock, re-roofed, added a bathroom and shower area, and painted the house for Pastor Jose Luis, These improvements to his stucco home has made it warmer for winter and cooler for summer. (House on the right)
The middle of September found us in the state of Vera Cruz, Mexico, to build kitchen cabinets for the family we meant last year. They have opened their home to many people over the years when their church had the annual conference.
Even though Barb had an upper respiratory infection she enjoyed her time there. She spent a lot of time sleeping and by the end of the week was feeling somewhat better. Jim instructed Heleodoro, the father, and his sons, Marcos, and Josuè on how to build the cabinets. Olga, mom, is shown in the picture to the left in her brand new kitchen. She has never had kitchen cabinets or counter tops. The plan is to paint and stain the cabinets and stucco the front of the wall that you see Olga standing behind. Once the wall is stucco, it will blend with the rest of the interior walls. Needless to say, the family was very happy and the men of the family were thrilled they were able to build the kitchen for her. On the way home, Barb became sick again and saw a doctor when they returned home. She had Bronchitis and water in the ears. She is finally feeling normal. Praise God.
The addition of the bathroom with shower has been well received. “No more cold bathrooms or showers”, they say with a smile on their face. No, there is no running or hot water, but they heat the water on their propane gas stoves and mix it with cold water. The new addition has been a big blessing to the family. (The new bathroom is to the left side of the house)
The Devries family wanted to help a family and to have a family reunion so they came to replace a bus home with a beautiful new home for Flor. (You can see her former home on the left.) She is a young grandma of six children, ages 6-11, whose mom died of a heart attack about 3 years ago. The children’s father’s health isn’t very good and he works when he can. Flor travels by bus 18 miles from the city of Juarez into the colonia every Monday to watch the kids and returns home on Friday. Her old home was very hot in the summer, had leaky windows when it rained, very cold in the winter, and had holes in the floor. Can you imagine moving into a home like you see in the picture above? She said she is a very blessed lady.
Two weeks ago as I was writing this letter, Jim dismounted off the ladder as it was sliding out from under him. (He was on our roof.)He didn’t get any points for the landing but received fourteen stitches in his forehead and a fractured humeros bone on his right shoulder. His back is fine as he was wearing his back brace. Please join us in prayer that his shoulder will heal properly and surgery won’t be necessary.
We especially want to thank you for your prayers and support to us these past few months. You are a part of what we do. Thank you for allowing us to continue reaching the Mexican people for the Lord through the local pastors.
We hope you have a very relaxing and wonderful HAPPY THANKSGIVING.
Many blessings,
Jim & Barb
