Border to Border Missions News

Hebrews 13:16 And do not forget to do good and to share with others.

Fall 2008
Dear Family & Friends,
We trust this news report finds you in good health and are thanking God for the blessings He has given you.
In our last newsletter we asked prayer for rain and safety of all teams. God answered your prayers by giving us lots of rain and there were no accidents. Barb still hasn’t found a surgeon for her bothersome eyelashes. We’re sorry to say that the violence in Juarez still continues. Please continue to pray that God would end the battle between the drug cartels. We praise God that it’s only between them and no one else. We are safe in the colonias where we work. We also asked prayer for Pastor Jorge to find land for a church. None was found that was affordable so he is adding onto his home that will be used as a church short –term.

Now for good news! Pastor Jose and family received a new home from the team of Majestic Baptist Church and the team also put insulation and sheet rock in the ceiling of his church. (See below) The work on the church has been a huge blessing for him and the people. It has inspired the congregation to bring bags of cement so they can stucco the cement walls. (Half the walls have been done so far) Money has been donated to pour a cement floor that will be hand mixed by the members of the congregation. (Thank you Ron!) They are excited to see their church complete. All this activity has bought many new families to the church; about 40-50 people now attend.
Do you remember the little house we built for a family earlier this year? Thanks to the Woodbury team, and our grandson, Austin, they now have a beautiful home. The small one was taken apart, reconstructed, a bathroom added, and rebuilt for Arturo. (See Photo on left) He had a fire at his rented platelet house a year ago and was living with various friends. The mighty Hagemann team of six and Austin built Arturo a small home that will be the size of the retirement homes. You can see by the smile on Arturo’s face that he is a very happy man. He asks that you pray for a wife for him now that he has a nice home to share with her.
Border to Border has purchased land across from Pastor Tino’s mission church to be used as a retirement center. We are excited about the prospects of this new adventure and the many things that need to take place before we start the actual work
For those of you who know Leti & Cisto, we’d like to announce that she is four months pregnant. Yes, we are all surprised too. Ruth, her last child, is 9 years old. Leti is 34 years old so please pray she’ll have a healthy baby with no complications. Cisto and the family are very happy for the news.

When we’re not building homes, Jim is teaching Oscar and Chon how to make furniture. Chon built a tall trestle table for his family of 8 and with a table you need chairs. Oscar had an island cabinet at his house and needed chairs also. Jim taught them how to mortise and tenon. This creates square pegs to put into the rungs of the chairs so they won’t turn when you put your feet on them. Chon asked Jim why they were square because he had always seen them round. Jim’s explanation made sense to him. You can see the partial pile of 110 rungs lined up behind Chon’s right elbow and a partially assembled chair. When the men were working on routing the rungs, Chon was sitting down holding the router between his legs and asked Jim if there wasn’t an easier way? Jim exclaimed to him there was definitely a safer method and described the router table. When Jim came in the next morning, there sat a “routing table” (see above photo) Chon had made one. He used the proto-type chair and added the on/off switch to the right leg of the chair. It’s rustic but works great. J It’s amazing to see their creativity.
Please pray for a much needed van or the money to purchase one for Pastor Jose. He has no vehicle and could really use one for the ministry. Many more children and adults would be able to come if he could pick them up.

Praises:
A safe summer
Churches are growing
Hetzel’s support doing well
Barb’s mom, she not in good health
Prayer Requests:
Much needed van for Pastor Jose
Beto, Pastor Jose brother has cancer
Violence in Juarez to end
A good pregnancy for Leti
Pedro & Jennifer – God’s direction

Many blessings to you,
Jim & Barb
