Summer 2005
Greetings to all and we pray this letter finds you in good health and filled with God’s peace and joy.
Our summer at Border to Border Missions has been filled with many wonderful and exciting
things. We were blessed to see God’s hands and feet working hard to build brand new homes for seven very grateful families in Mexico.
We were delighted that the first team of the summer came from Galilee Baptist Church in Loveland, Colorado, to build a home for Sunida and Horacio. (see photo) Galilee Baptist is our sending church so it was a special time with friends from home. They also brought along a big surprise for Jim and me, our son Dwayne. Thank you Galilee Baptist, we won’t forget your giving to the Lord and to us.
The following teams also answered God’s call and built homes for families in Mexico:
Four teams from Southeast Christian built homes for Trinidad & her family, Chon & Anna Maria, Carmen & her family, and Roberto & Juanita
Majestic Baptist built a home for Gloria and Jesus.
Jim and I led a team of fourteen from our home church in El Paso, Vista Del Sol Baptist Church, to Creel, Mexico. Creel is located in southwestern Mexico and is called the Grand Canyon of Mexico. We went to Creel to build a 30 x 24 foot home for Pastor Ernesto and his wife, Olga. They are a wonderful, dedicated couple who love the Lord and have been called to bring the word of God to the Tarahumara Indians. The Tarahumaras have lived a very isolated life in the Creel area and they have been looked down upon by the Mexican people for centuries. Pastor Ernesto introduced us to a young Tarahumara couple he has been discipling and it was wonderful to see how their lives have been transformed by God’s love. (see Pastor & Olga with Jim and I in photo)
The trip to Creel was both challenging and rewarding. The challenge was the logistics of orchestrating a build 320 miles southwest of El Paso, transporting the tools and equipment to the site, and the purchasing of supplies long distance in a foreign country. God is so faithful and good. He provided all we needed and more. We met beautiful, welcoming people, saw God’s glorious works of nature, and had delicious meals prepared by Pastor Ernesto’s wife, Olga. The entire team agreed we would come again next year to build what ever was needed just to enjoy Olga’s cooking again.
God has provided us with a wonderful, hard working, part time worker for Jim. Oscar works for Border to Border Missions in the morning and then he goes to his other job in the afternoon. Oscar and his wife, Gina, have two children, Stephanie and Oscar, Jr.
The Mexican government has opened a new area for homes called Tarahumara Colonia in southwest Juarez, Mexico, and Border to Border Missions has been building there. There are many opportunities to build in this area. When the pastor of the mission church in this colonia closed the doors of the church, twelve faithful people continued to pray and worship. They invited Pastor Tino to come pastor them in addition to leading his own church. Tino and his wife, Juanita, now walk the two miles on the dusty road between the two churches several times a week. Please pray for a vehicle for Pastor Tino and Juanita. If you know of anyone who would like to donate a good running mini van for Pastor Tino, please let us know.
Please pray for this little mission church which has grown to 60 members. They are making
payments on a little piece of land and have hopes of one day building a church. Pray also for the twenty young men who are studying the Bible with Pastor Tino. In Mexico, usually only the women attend church. God is working in the hearts and lives of these men. Pray for their strength, endurance, and continued passion for God. We hope to have the privilege of one day building a church for these precious saints. (Pastor Tino & Juanita in photo)
Border to Border Missions has found a parcel of land in Mexico to purchase for a warehouse. There is much red tape to work through before a purchase can be made. We have learned that Mexico is the land of “mañana,” and what that means is simply, “not today.” The land is very near Pastor Tino’s church and home where they would be able to watch over the property when we’re not there. We have hopes of building not only a warehouse, but also a community garden and a day care center. Pray for open doors and that “mañana” would be today.
North of the border we have been working for many months on a building project for a non-profit organization called Dame La Mano (Give Me A Hand). Dame La Mano houses and ministers to abused and single mothers. The present facility houses fourteen women with thirty-five children in an 1,800 square foot house. As you can imagine, the house is just too small and the need is great. Jim has been busy working with their board of directors to develop the plans for a much needed 2,000 square foot addition that will include more bedrooms, bathrooms, and a much larger dining hall. Several local churches work with Dame La Mano and it is hoped that each church will provide a building team for the project. Border to Border Missions is excited to be a part of God’s plans.
Please pray for the families who live in this tight space as the ministry guides them to the Lord and helps them to find their way. We have heard so many wonderful testimonies from the women at Dame La Mano about what God has done for them.
