Winter 2005

Hebrews 13:16 And do not forget to do good and to share with others…

Dearest Friends and Family,

Fall and winter are our favorite of times of the year. The colors of the leaves can be so vibrant; you can see the seasons are changing – preparing for winter- a resting time. So it is with our ministry. BtBM had a busy summer with the construction of eight homes, one church and one clinic. Preparations are in the works to begin construction on a 2000 square foot addition on the right side of the Dame Lo Mano building (picture to the left). Dame Lo Mano is a home for abused or single moms. Currently there are 14 women and 35 children living in this 1800 sq. foot building.

God blessed us this year with wonderful teams who came to build homes in Mexico; Galilee Baptist, CO, Vista del Sol Baptist Church, TX, S. E. Christian, CO, Ancient Path Church, CO, and the DeVries family, CO. KWAL Paints very graciously donated 320 gallons of paint.

Jim had the privilege of speaking at Pastor Tino’s church and at the Missions Church in Mexico. Pastor Tino says he likes to hear Jim “preach” because he always learns something. When the Missions church first began, they had about 30 people, now there are over 50.

Every Saturday for the last four years, Juanita, Pastor Tino’s wife, has led a children’s club. There are usually 35-40 children that come. She teaches them Bible stories, and when they learn a Bible verse, she rewards them with a prize. It reminds us of when we were in AWANA. The prizes consist of crayons, toys, notebooks or candy that teams have bought down. If you have anything that you would like to donate for the children’s ministry, Juanita would appreciate it. I visited the children’s club one day and was thrilled to watch the children do Bible drills and read the Bible. They also recited Bible verses from memory. I pray that these children continue learning and growing in our Lord.

We have asked many of you to pray for a parcel of land where we can build a day care center and our warehouse. We have found the piece of land and after many months of waiting to see if it is for sale we STILL don’t have a definite answer. It has been frustrating. God is still trying to teach us patience.

God has given us a wonderful part-time helper named Oscar. When Border to Border Missions has the funds, we want to hire him full–time. He works part-time for BtBM and has a full time job in a factory. He tries very hard to help Jim in any way he can and is an eager learner. Oscar is also learning English. He is a great help to Pastor Tino and plays the guitar in the church. Oscar has a wife and two children and they love the Lord very much.

Introducing our newest design: It is still 432 sq. feet and has three rooms. It comes with a covered porch and you can see in the picture that the children have taken it over with their table and chairs that was given by a team. The left side of the house is the kitchen and living room and the right consist of two bedrooms. It will be used on the larger lots and we’ll use the other design for smaller properties. This house replaced the very unsafe house (pictured below) for the family of Julian and Norma and their six children. As you can see, they needed a home. There were no windows, no real door, the roof leaked, it had a dirt floor, and very thin sheeting on the left side of the house. They had a tarp over their bed because the roof leaked when it rained and when the wind blew the whole house moved. This family felt very blessed by the Americans who came to give them a safe warm home for their family.

Jim, Pastor Tino, and I recently attended a missions conference at S. E. Christian, CO. (Juanita wasn’t able to obtain her visa in time) We had a wonderful time fellowshipping with the people. Pastor Tino was very impressed because the “church is reaching so many mission fields with the blessings that God has given them.” He said “that instead of keeping these blessings to themselves they are spreading it around the world.”

Jim and I want to thank you for all your prayers and financial support this past year. Truly, without your support we would not be able to do the work God has for us. There have been many families and people that have been blessed because of your faithfulness. We wish you all a Christmas filled with the wonder of His birth and a Blessed New Year.

Blessings to you all,
Jim and Barb Hetzel
